The most important thing I teach is listening skills. These help my pupils across their lives, not just with their music, but of course, listening is the fundamental skill of all musicians.
If we take our time then we learn deep down into our fingers, building the foundations of technique for when we are older.
Adults are equally capable of learning as children — in my experience, better really. The most important thing for everyone is that they know why they are learning and they enjoy it.
After grade 8 comes the Diploma — the doorway to working professionally in music. I can teach, mentor and coach at any level, supporting advanced students, music teachers and professional performers to develop their technique and progress their careers.
Learning to play the piano is really only half the story. The joy of performance completes the picture. For many pupils the only opportunity to perform is experienced in the exam room. I have found that regular showcase concerts provide an opportunity to structure and develop the player's skill in a fun and very rewarding way. Showcase concerts complement and significantly enhance progression through the grades.
My teaching studio is located in Kidderminster, Worcestershire.
